NLC Terminal handles the increased traffic brought by the Bothnia Line
NLC Terminal in Umeå is built to meet the market demands of railway transports, and the increased traffic brought by the Bothnia Line.
The Swedish Rail Administration Banverket, together with Infrastruktur i UmeåAB, are investing a total amount of SEK 900 million in the new terminal area. The terminal will handle separate load carriers and the loading/unloading of freight carriers, and will be offering a series of service functions (a rebuilding of the passenger railway yard is part of the investment).
The investment is made to:
* improve accessibility by a strategic relocation in the transport system
* increase freight handling capacity
* increase capacity on the section Umeå-the PortofUmeå
* move the freight handling out of downtown Umeå
* increase traffic safety
The new goods station will incorporate several integrated services:
* tracks for oncoming trains and train coupling/decoupling
* terminal for separate load carriers
* terminal for loading and unloading freight carriers
* parking area and service centre for load carriers
In connection with the goods station there will be a service area for operation and maintenance of vehicles and tracks. There´s also room for external enterprises here.
