Umeå becomes rail port for the Port of Göteborg
The PortofGöteborg has worked out a new concept called RailPort Scandinavia. The idea is to bring a large number of train commuter stations in Sweden closer to the port by letting them handle customs procedures, store-keeping, documentation and other services.
The new goods station in Umeå, NLC Terminal, is a rail port terminal right from the beginning, that is when the Bothnia Line starts running in the autumn of 2010. This will largely shift long freight transports from road to railway. The rail port terminal planned to be built at NLC Terminal in Umeå will cover approximately30,000 square metresand have room for around 1,000 shipping containers and 100 lorry trailers at the same time. |
