International harbour with increasing goods handling

 The portofUmeå handles approximately 2.2 million tons per year.Forestproducts like craft liner, wooden articles and recycled paper make up half the weight. Unitised goods, i.e. different sorts of goods in trailers and containers, represent a great part and so does oil, forage and cement.
The goods handling has increased over the past years. This applies particularly to wood products, ferry goods, provisions and semi-manufactured goods for the industry.
 
The port of Umeå houses larger volumes of containerised goods than any other port north of Gävle. The volumes are increasing and currently the number is 15,000 TEU.

 
The regular traffic Umeå-Vasa is an important link across the sea for the European highway E12, crossing Sweden and Finlandand connecting with Petrozavodsk ,St. Petersburg and the Baltic States .
