Transport-intensive industry expanding fast

Umeå is an important industrial town. The annual growth in industrial production value is approximately 7 percent (2-3 percent in the whole country), which brings about an increased demand for cost-effective transport and logistics services.
 
The industrial development is mainly in the private sector, both through industrial investments and company-oriented services. Lots of new companies have started up, for instance in the communication and IT business. Both the manufacturing industry and the forest industry stand strong, and so does the mercantile industry.

 
The public sector is well-developed. The seven schools ofUmeåUniversityand the SwedishUniversity of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) significantly contribute to the dynamics.
